About the Artist

Jean Edson (JE) Jeanty is a Haitian born, self-taught abstract artist raised in Brooklyn, New York. His style incorporates the grittiness of the urban landscape with the vivid colors of his Caribbean heritage. Jeanty utilizes various media including acrylic and oil paint, markers, oil sticks, crayons, recycled materials, used clothing, cloth, pencil, ink, magazine clippings, and used Styrofoam packaging to express his emotions and to bring to light the beauty of our people, our experiences and accomplishments. In the fall of 2022, Jeanty was presented with the Artist of Distinction Award for Mixed Media at the Roselle Park Arts Festival and then invited to exhibit at the CK Art Gallery in Brooklyn. In the winter of 2023, Jeanty was invited to exhibit at the Impressions an Plein Air Exhibition at the Van der Plas Gallery in SOHO. In 2024, Jeanty was recognized by director Spike Lee at the “Do the Right Thing” 35th Anniversary Block Party for an art piece depicting Spike’s legacy. A New York City Middle School Principal by day, Jeanty brings his passion for art to his school community by taking time every day to create art with his students and staff as means of expression. His work captures the deep complexities of the human condition with the hope of bringing awareness to the struggles of the marginalized while celebrating the beauty of our existence.
